Welcome to Open Enrollment!
Open Enrollment is back in the spotlight!
Commonly referred to as OE, this is your once-a-year opportunity to make changes or sign up for new benefits outside of a qualifying life event. As always, we want you to take time to review, understand and select the right benefits for you and your family. Carefully take the time to review all of your available benefits, including those McClatchy provides at no cost to you, and make the best selections for the year ahead.
What you need to know this year...
It's time for Open Enrollment! This year, we are conducting an active enrollment for 2026, which means all employees must log into the benefits portal and make elections for their benefits, even if you wish to waive coverage or keep your current plan.
- Enrollment Period: October 27th - November 10th, 2025.
- Action Required: You must make your benefit elections for the upcoming year. If you do not make elections during open enrollment, you may lose your current coverage or may not have the benefits you prefer next year.
Medical Coverage Change
We’re excited to announce that, this year, we are offering three different health care plans through Anthem Blue Cross. Each plan is designed to give you flexibility in coverage, choice of providers, and peace of mind for you and your family. Take a moment to explore your options and choose the plan that best fits your needs during this open enrollment period.
Life Insurance Plan Enhancements
The Empathy Application offers employees and beneficiaries complimentary services when submitting a claim at no extra cost. These services include grief counseling with licensed social workers, funeral planning assistance, estate administration guidance, help with closing financial accounts and subscriptions, and identity theft protection with instructions to freeze credit and safeguard a loved one's identity.

Open Enrollment FAQ
While marketplace premiums rose about 10% this year, our increased employer contributions mean the average increase for existing plans is only around 5.8%. With the new Value Choice plan, the overall average across all plans is actually slightly lower year-over-year.
See the 2026 Costs & Rates page for more details.
McClatchy offers three medical plans, all of which cover the same types of procedures and services; however, they differ in the way the cost of care is structured and in the strategies you can use to control your expenses.
The Savings Advantage plan includes a higher deductible; however, you’ll pay a lower monthly premium (your cost of the medical plan) and McClatchy will contribute to your HSA to jump-start your savings.*
With the Classic Care plan, you'll pay less for services received from an in-network provider but will pay more in monthly premium costs.
The Value Choice plan will allow you to have a lower monthly premium cost but a higher deductible and allow contributions to HSA.
Visit our LiveWell Page for more information.
*Employees are subject to eligibility rules for HSA contributions.
You have three dental plans to choose from: Basic, Comprehensive or HMO. All plans provide access to network providers at negotiated discount costs and cover preventive services, such as exams, cleanings and x-rays. However, the Comprehensive plan also includes coverage for basic/major restorative services.
Visit our LiveWell Page for more information.
You have two vision plans to choose from: Basic or Comprehensive. Both plans provide access to network providers at negotiated discount costs, cover preventive services such as exams, and offer discounts on the purchase of prescription glasses and/or contacts. However, the Comprehensive plan also includes an allowance for prescription glasses or contact lenses.

Fortunately, McClatchy is able and happy to automatically enroll all benefit-eligible employees in the below benefits:
- Short-term & Long-term Disability Insurance- Protects you and minimizes your financial worries should you become ill or injured and unable to work (may be augmented by state leave and/or McClatchy's Parental Leave)
- Basic Life & ADPL Insurance- Helps by providing a foundation of financial protection for your family if something happens to you.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)- Provides you and your family with confidential support, resources and referrals for every aspect of your work and personal life.
Both the Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account options let you take home a larger paycheck by reducing your taxable income. Once you're enrolled you contribute tax-free dollars into an account that can be used on qualified medical, dental and vision or qualified dependent care expenses — also reducing out-of-pocket costs.
Health Savings Account (HSA) - You must be enrolled in the Savings Advantage Plan Or Value Choice to be eligible for the HSA program. This plan does not require re-enrollment each year as long as you remain eligible.
Health Care FSA (HCFSA) - The FSA healthcare plan is available to any employee not enrolled in the Savings Advantage Plan. Re-enrollment each year is required to participate.
Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) - The Dependent Care FSA is available to all employees with eligible dependents regardless of medical plan enrollment. Both the Healthcare FSA and the Dependent Care FSA plans require re-enrollment each year to participate.
- Gather Social Security Number and Date of Birth for new dependent(s)
- Decide who your beneficiaries will be - It is helpful, but not required, to have the same information (SSN and DOB) for beneficiaries
Eligible Dependents
• Your spouse;
• Your qualified domestic partner;
• Your dependent children** including a natural child,
stepchild, legally adopted child, qualified domestic
partner’s child, foster children and/or any child for
whom you are responsible for under a court order.
**Spousal Coverage** If your spouse is eligible for non-HMO medical and/or dental coverage with their employer, they must be enrolled in that coverage in order to be eligible for secondary medical or dental coverage with McClatchy.
If your spouse’s medical and/or dental plan is an HMO, they cannot be covered under a McClatchy plan.

In most cases, you may only make changes to your benefits during Open Enrollment. However, if you or your family experience a “qualified life event,” you may make changes to certain benefits related to that event, such as a birth or marriage. Take a look at our what to do when page for more details.
Changes you make to your benefits during Open Enrollment will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
